What is Personalised Tuning?

Basically your car, van, bus or truck all have on board computers, your vehicle has a computer that governs the power the engine can produce namely the ECU.
We can remap/tune the ECU to your Personal requirements. If you have a performance petrol/diesel car we can give you greater performance right through the range and an improved top end. Or if you are a fleet user and it is fuel economy you are looking for we can do that, from the smallest car up to the largest commercial vehicle. Turbo diesel drivers notice a huge improvement, in power and economy. If you tow a caravan and feel you could do with more torque at the lower to mid rev range we can do that and also have a slight increase at the top end.

Tuning Examples and Results

The Mini One and the Mini Cooper are good examples of an ECU remap, these cars are mechanically the same except the Mini One produces 95 bhp and the Cooper produces 120 bhp, how do they do that? Quite simply they remap the ECU on the Mini One from 95 bhp to 120 bhp, bolt on some body styling and charge well in excess of £2500 for the pleasure. We at Personalised Tuning can take your Mini One from 95 - 120+ bhp iron out any flat spots and make the car more driver friendly for around £350 +Vat.

Another example at the other end of the scale is a Scania 40ft arctic lorry we can remap the ECU on this to give it more torque and bhp resulting in fewer gear changes especially on hills therefore a fuel saving of around 1.5 mpg, this at first might not sound like much but when you consider this vehicle at best only returns around 8 mpg, this 1.5 mpg is a massive saving to a haulage company. Your average car or van can expect around 5 - 6 mpg saving depending on how the car is driven.

So What Do We Do?

We are fully mobile but would prefer if you brought your vehicle to us, firstly we will link in to your vehicle ECU via the On Board Diagnostic Socket (OBD) we will read the files in the ECU and make a copy of them, the same as when you make a copy of a file on your home pc, at this point there has been no changes made to your vehicle and it can still be driven this process takes around 15 minutes. We then discuss with you what your requirements are and what you want out of the vehicle, this information and the copy of the original files are sent via the internet to a team of specialist programmers, there a programmer who is fully up to speed with your make and model of vehicle modifies your files to your requirements then sends them back to us via the internet, this normally takes around 1 hour depending up on the programmers work load. The next step is to transfer the files in to your ECU the same way as they were originally copied, this will also take around 15 minutes depending up on the vehicle. The next step is for you to go for a drive and experience the changes. The original files are stored should you ever wish to convert the vehicle back to standard.
